I had a picnic with some friends at the NGV over the weekend. I'd been planning this for weeks and had been looking forward to it all of last week. This group of girls are friends from uni and even though it's been incredibly difficult to arrange gatherings, we always have a ball when we do get together...
I'd been wanting to arrange a picnic for a year or so but didn't want to do my own and the pre-made one I was looking at was all the way in mornington, which would be pretty impossible to arrange. I was incredibly excited to find out the NGV was doing picnics on the weekend.
I was a bit nervous about the weather, forecast during the week said rain but thankfully, it was pretty clear...
On the day, we all met in the beautifully lit lobby of the NGV, when most of us arrived, we headed to the garden bar to pick up the picnic, we were given some amazing looking rugs and cushions, I especially loved the designs on the cushions. We then found a spot in the garden and set up...
Our food was brought over in crates, all wrapped up and ready to eat. We had gone for the standard picnic which consisted of the following:
Baguette Hot smoked salmon & zesty lemon quiche Babaganoush dip with biscuits Charcuterie selection Cheese selection Single serve of ice-cream
as well as a softdrink of your choice and a coupon for an ice cream from the bar.
All that for AUD25, amazing deal I reckon.
We set everything out and dug in...
The quiche was particularly yummy and everyone scoffed them down pretty quickly.
There was also a cheeses and crackers, but the favourites were the dip and the charcuterie selection.
It may not seem like a lot on the menu, but believe me, we spent 3 hours eating and still couldn't finish it!
Thanks to the staff at the NGV for the amazing service and for helping us out with this group photo!
All smiles around!
We sat just outside the restaurant and there was plenty of people watching to do as there were visitors having a look around the lovely gardens.
I would do the picnic again in a heartbeat, no stress of having to put together my own food and just a good time, I'm glad the weather held out, 2 hours after we finished our picnic, it started pouring.. phew.
