My parents asked what I wanted to have for dinner as my first meal in Singapore and I said HK street immediately. I can't recall how we discovered this place but we started going for family dinners a few years ago and I always request a visit every time I'm back.
It's located in a small mixed residential/retail building and from the outside (and inside) is nothing impressive design-wise, but as the name suggests, it does feel like a family restaurant and the food is as tasty and heart-warming as home cooked food.
Always starting with a drink, I had a lime juice, probably made from a concentrate but I like my sour drinks.
Hot Plate Tofu. The sauce is extremely delicious and the ingredients fresh, one of my favourites at HK street.
4 Season Beans, I love this dish, garlic, long beans and belachan. A perfect combination.
Assam Fish Head Curry, even my parents agreed that it was overly spicy that day. However, the fish meat was fresh and the sauce was pretty good with rice.
We only had a handful of dishes because I was jet lagged and 3 of us couldn't possibly eat that much but if you do go, I recommend the sweet and sour pork and the ngoh hiang as well.
